BACON FINNEGAN

AND THE RELICS OF MERLIN

School Visits, Events and Organizations

"Tim Northburg visited the children today. He is an author who has started his own series called Bacon Finnegan. Mr. Northburg has yet to publish his book, but he took the kiddos through the whole process of writing a book from beginning to end. Thanks for visiting, Mr. Northburg."

-Ms. Lafflam, 4th Grade Teacher, Zach Elementary School

"We had a guest author speaker on Tuesday who happened to be one of our very own parents, Tim Northburg, Mackenzie's dad. He gave a fabulous presentation to the students about the book he has written. Each child was given a business card with the website to access more information about the book and also the ability to ask more questions to Mr. Northburg. . .Thank you so very much, Tim for coming."

-Ms. Brown, 4th Grade Teacher, Zach Elementary School

Author Visit Modules

Timothy A. Northburg brings a variety of topics and activities to schools, the classroom, events and organizations. Mr. Northburg promises to make the visit fun and educational.  It is his goal to inspire and motivate others into action. Here is a sample of the modules he shares with students and organizations. (A combination of modules can be arranged to fit your school, event or organization's needs)

THE IMPORTANCE OF GOALS:  This module shares with the class his experience setting and working towards goals. What is a goal?  What is a BHAG goal?  Goals vs. dreams.  How to set goals.

ULTIMATE SUCCESS:  This module outlines a definition of success. What does success mean to you? What does it look like? In the end, each student will write down his or her own definition of success.

THE ESSENCE OF WRITING:  This module shares the importance of style and grammar.  Mr. Northburg will also discuss Setting, Plot, Characterization, Conflict, Theme. Classroom exercises are available, if time permitted.

GETTING A BOOK PUBLISHED:  Does a book just appear on the shelf in the bookstore?  No.  This module explains there is a lot of hard work and a process to getting a book published. What are the steps involved?  Research, Writing, Editing, Synopsis, Letters, Querying Agents, More Editing, Publisher, Distribution, Marketing.

VISION BOARDS:  This activity is an extension of the Goals and Success module or can be done separately. The students will be asked to bring to class photos, magazines, and articles related to a goal that they have, or what is important to them in their life. Students will cut, paste and create a vision board for their goal/important thing on posterboard that they can take home with them and put in a visible place.

YOU GET AS YOU GIVE:  This module discusses the simple principle of the law of return. This simple law is at work in our lives everyday, at school, at home, at work, on the playground, in sports, or in activities.  The effort you put in is what you get out.  Mr. Northburg shares simple examples of this to illustrate how this principle works.
